My daughter is very hard on herself, soon as she comes out of the show ring, even if it was the winning round she has something to say about it. I think its more she’s a perfectionist in weird ways. (As anything but riding she’s sloppy an unorganized)

I’m recalling a situation at a show that she ended up second out of 20 some very nice horses at a trillium show. (It helps to say our zone is the most competitive to qualify for finals aka Championships because most of the riders show on the “A” circuit as well)

But, my daughter can never see the bright side, “That was a good course, you met all the jumps and you got all the leads. You just need to remember to keep to the middle of the jump and not to let her drift.” That coming from the trainer and two older riders that have more expirence then her.

Her variation is much different.

” I had an okay course. I got my leads but one wasn’t the back end first and thats because I ended up leaning a bit. I had some good distances but the long run to the oxer was slightly long. I let her drift in the 4 stride so that didn’t help with our pace and had to leave slightly long to the last jump in the line. I closed to much on one vertical, that didn’t look as good to me.”

I try to focus on the positive and make her tell me what was good, but I find when she’s slightly hard on herself she rides better. But when she actually does have a bad round it’s really hard to talk to her about it and she gets very upset about it. I dont know sometime time I feel I should just tell her to suck it up but then again this is her sport she wants to excel in.

Any tips? any one else who has the same problem?
